Estudiantes de La Plata are Argentinian league champions for the first time in 23 years after beating a dumbstruck Boca Juniors 2-1 Wednesday night. Boca manager Ricardo La Volpe, who had only been in charge for a few months, resigned immediately after the match. The club had long been in the league top spot and was headed for its third-straight title, which would have been a first for the Buenos Aires club. Arch rivals River Plate have completed the feat twice.
